It was a mini derby day in southampton today, with the only two teams in the league from the city coming head to head.

I had done a small amount of homework on southampton women and from what i found out, i knew today was going to be a tough test for the uni ladies. Southampton women have a great coach in Lisa Savage and i know she works very hard with southampton women on tactics and on how to play the ball around.

The 1st half kicked off and it was SULFC who were quickest off the mark. keeping the ball well and passing the ball around well. it took just 9 minutes to take the lead as new signing Catherine Scott ( Scotty ) when a nice ball from the back into scottys feet saw a high shot lob the keeper to make it 1-0 SULFC

It was not long before goal number 2 went to SULFC when some great link-up play between Em and Karleen led to a cross from the inform striker to the back post where the captain Zoe was waiting to put the ball in the back of the net with a neat header. She will remember that goal for along time let me tell you.

On the 18th minute a solo run down the wing from Em saw her CROSS saved by the keeper, but only for the save to end up in southamptons own net... a lucky goal for SULFC but a goal none the less

Goal number 4 for SULFC came when a ball into the box from another new signing Maz was controlled an half-vollyed into the bottom corner from Sophie.

On the 35 minute it was 5-0 to SULFC and the game was really running away from southampton now. yet again the southampton defenders did not get the ball out of their box quick enough and a cheeky toe-poke from about 5 yards out saw Karleen get her 1st goal of the game.

SULFC went in at half-time 5-0 up, but in truth if we had taken all of our chances we could of been about 8 goals up

HALF-TIME

SULFC 5 Southampton Women 0

The 2nd half kicked off and it was southampton who were the strongest team to start with, SULFC came out with their heads down and thinking they had already won the game. Southampton saw this and went at us with every thing they had. Southampton were by far the better team for the 1st 15 minutes. winning everything in midfield and winning everything in the air.

However it was SULFC to strike again when a ball from Scotty in to Karleens feet, saw her turn and strike at goal. the ball took a nasty deflection, but still ended up in the back of the net to make it 6-0 to SULFC

the fight back was on for Southampton, now more than ever. Some good pressure from Southamptons winger lead to SULFC giving away a corner, and from that corner a hard volley into the top corner of the net gave Southampton something to cheer about.

However it was to be only to be for a moment, as from the kick off SULFC went right back up the other end and a run from the left wing with the ball at zoes feet, saw her cut inside and put the ball into the six-yard box for Marie to shoot and yet again the ball take a deflection and end up in the back of Southamptons net for Goal number 7 of the day

Goal number 8 came from a solo run from Em down the right wing, to yet again see the keeper off her line and pull off a 16 yard lob

To finish off the 9-1 win, another goal from SULFC's most deadly striker Karleen, with a neat run into the box and to slip the ball past the keeper.

SULFC made light work of what in my eyes is a VERY strong Southampton Womens team. after seeing Southamptons recent results i thought they were a very good team, and knew we would be in for a fight today, however i think we must have caught them on an off day.

Not taking anything away from SULFC as we controlled the game for about 80 minutes and kept the ball well

Andover New Street Reserves are the visitors to Wildern this weekend. We have a 100% record in the league so far and love playing on our home turf. We will be hoping to be the 1st team to beat Andover this season and also keep up our winning run.

Last time round Andover won the match 4-1 , i feel now with new signings and SULFC on form, the game will be very different this time round
