So it was hayling united... AGAIN. this time it was a journey for us down to the island, and a game that the girls REALLY wanted to win as it would put us into the 1/4 finals of the portsmouth cup and that little bit closer to the final.
Before the game both teams took part in a 1 minutes silence to pay thier respects to the fallen soldiers of WW1 / WW2 and in wars where british soldiers have lost their lives in battle.
So, the game kicked off and stright away SULFC were on the attack, there was no holding back today and after having last weeks game called of, there was nothing more thana win on sulfc mind. within the 1st 3 minutes finchy had a chance to open the scoring only to be flagged offside.
the game went on and we got our goal on the 20th minute when a nice run down the left wing from zoe who held up the ball to square it to karleen, who had all the time in the world to take a touch and bend the ball from the edge of the area into the keepers top left hand corner, no keeper in the world would of saved a shot like that.
with hayling going a goal down, they kicked off wanting that goal back, and after 5 minutes they had that goal. A great run from haylings left winger, who slipped the ball inside to her striker. taking 1 touch an then lopping daisy to her right, charlie did her best to stop the goal, but it went in off the post. just unlucky rather thana good goal.
with that goal it was as you were again.
with heads held high an knowing that there were goals to be had, sulfc pushed for that 2nd goal, and got it just before half time, when a neat ball into finchys feet layed it off to karleen who drilled her shot to the keepers right, 2-1 SULFC
Half Time Hayling 1 SULFC 2
the 2nd half kicked off, and it was more of the same from sulfc, neat football, ball on the floor and it was looking good.
chances came for us, but offside, after shot saved, after corner it felt like the game would stay 2-1.
it was not to be, and a run direct down the middle of the park from finchy, who run her heart out to get into haylings 18 yrd box, drilled her shot down the middle, and up and over the keeper. finchy dropping to her knees to celebrate only her 2nd goal of the season. 3-1 to sulfc
as the game went on hayling took the game to us and had alot of attacking chances, mainly built up by thier right winger who seemed to have alot of pace about her. however she was not to quick for our left back charlie who marked her out the game, and stopped any attack from that side.
last 15 minutes of the game and sulfc fell asleep, mainly down to fitness.
However we held out the 90 minutes and saw the game out 3-1 winners.
on to the 1/4 finals and onto Fleet town
